Tamil film ‘Thaai Kizhavi’ has premiered, blending dark comedy, family drama, and rural entertainment. Early audience reactions on X praise its engaging first half, sharp comedy, and emotional moments, particularly highlighting performances from Singam Puli and Bala Saravanan. The film, a satirical take on avarice, is drawing positive buzz for its refreshing approach.

The Tamil film ‘Thaai Kizhavi’ has started its theatrical run, with overseas premieres taking place before the India release on February 27. The film had its USA premiere for an early overseas start and a regular start in Tamil Nadu. Expectations were high for the film, which promises a mix of dark comedy, family drama, and rural entertainment. Early reactions gave viewers a glimpse of how audiences responded, even before word-of-mouth or box office reports came in. Fans took X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts on the film.

Fans praise the comedy and the first half

Those who watched the film, either fully or just the first half, enjoyed the comedy and performances. The cast, including Singam Puli, Bala Saravanan, Munishkanth, and Arul Doss, provided several funny instances, though some jokes didn’t land well. Fans appreciated the writing because it was engaging enough without a dull moment. Radhika Sarathkumar’s cameo was good, despite its short length. Almost everyone appreciated the nostalgic songs by Kamalasan and his own songs in the first half, especially during the interval, similar to the interludes seen in ‘Vishwaroopam.’ Everyone called the first half of the movie ‘Goosebumps,’ and the spontaneous comedy felt good too.

Emotional moments win hearts

Apart from the laughs, some viewers appreciated the film’s emotional moments. The scenes led by Munishkanth and Bala Saravanan, along with the hospital and other emotional scenes, were said to be emotional and contributed to the comedy. Social media users labeled the film a “feel-good rural entertainer that had all the requirements for an audience to root for the film, laugh, and enjoy.” Some advised going in with low expectations for a smooth ride, as Radhikaa’s role was much less than anticipated but impactful. Viewers felt the first half was refreshing without unwanted fight scenes or bloodshed, which made the comic scenes sharp and to the point.
