Vijay Varma steps into the role of Brij Bhatti in the highly anticipated web series ‘Matka King,’ which unfolds in the vibrant backdrop of 1960s Bombay. The freshly released trailer gives a glimpse into Bhatti’s gripping journey from a humble laborer to a formidable gambling kingpin, delving into the depths of the underworld amidst the era’s societal changes. Vijay Varma is all geared up for the release of his upcoming web series, ‘Matka King’. The show deals with gambling in India. Ahead of its premiere on a streaming platform, the makers unveiled the trailer for the series, helmed by acclaimed director Nagraj Ganpatrao Manjule.

‘Matka King’ trailer is out

The trailer showcases Brij Bhatti’s rise from a laborer to Matka King. However, his journey involves several ups and downs and, of course, the underworld. In the 2:25 second glimpse, Vijay’s character says, “Isko jua satta nahi bolenge aaj se. Aaj se iska naam, ‘Matka’.” Sai Tamhankar plays the wife of Vijay’s character, while Kritika Kamra plays his mistress. Watch the trailer here.

More about ‘Matka King’

The show is set in the 1960s of Mumbai (then Bombay) and revolves around a trader who starts a new gambling system. In Mumbai and around Maharashtra, it used to be called ‘Matka’.According to The Hindu, the logline of the Nagraj Manjule-directed show reads, “Matka King follows Brij Bhatti, a sharp-minded and enterprising cotton trader, played by the dynamic Vijay Varma, who navigates the fast-changing landscape of 1960s Bombay in pursuit of legitimacy and respect. Set against a world of bustling markets, crowded chawls, and shifting power dynamics, what begins as an ambitious idea soon takes on a life of its own, drawing in people across social strata. As aspirations grow and stakes rise, the series unfolds into a gripping narrative shaped by ambition, power, and belonging.”Apart from Vijay Varma, the show features Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadawat, and Gulshan Grover in lead roles. The star cast also includes Vineet Kumar Singh, Bharat Jadhav, Girish Kulkarni, Jamie Lever, Kishor Kadam, Cyrus Sahukar, Arpita Sethia, Sambhaji Tangade, Ishtiyak Khan, Sanjivv Jotangia, and Simran Ashwini in pivotal roles.The show is set to premiere on Prime Video on April 17, 2026.
