Pohela Boisakh is one of the most significant festivals, which is celebrated by Bengali community. Another name for Pohela Boishakh is Poila Baisakh. The day marks the beginning of Bengal New Year. Nobo Borsho, or Bengali New Year, is observed on this day. The festival is mainly celebrated in West Bengal, Tripura, Jharkhand, and Assam. Across the nation, people joyfully commemorate this day. Pohela Baisakh 2026: Significance

Pohela Boishakh is one of the most prominent festivals, which is mainly celebrated in Bengal. This day marks the beginning od Bengal New Year. This day is also known as Nobo Borsho – Nobo means New and Borsho means Year. This is an extremely fortunate day according to Bengal calendar. This day is considered an auspicious day to launch new businesses, start new ventures, buy new homes, and buy new vehicle. It marks the beginning of the Bengali Era, 1433. It represents a new beginning full of hope, prosperity, and optimism and is the first day of the Bengali calendar. The celebration inspires individuals to put the past behind them and look forward to the future with hope.

Poila Baisakh 2026: Celebration

On this auspicious day, women wear sarees and men dress up in kurtas. People invite their friends, family, and relations to celebrate. They greet one another and prepare special meals. Traditional village fairs are held, and many people go there to enjoy the day.They enjoy sharing traditional foods with their families. People take part in the procession, dance, and sing traditional songs because they believe that this day is extremely auspicious. An essential component of the Poila Baisakh celebrations in Bengal is the display of handicrafts. They attend temples, practice fasts, and pray to the Goddess.It is the most significant day as the Bengali business community worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi with devotion. People purchase auspicious items and goods. To commemorate the event, sweet dishes are made at home and new outfits are worn.
