‘The Boys’ finally came to an end with season 5, episode 8. With the two main leads of the gruesome show officially gone, the gang set off into the sunset and lived their lives peacefully (as much as they could), with some even starting their own families. However, a lot of fans were still left wondering about how some of the pivotal characters from previous seasons never made it to season 5. Why was Dominique McElligott not in ‘The Boys’ season 5
While talking with Goldie Derby, Erik Kripke opened about why Queen Maeve never returned for the final season. Kripke cited that the two were in conversation about her return to the show, and that he had truly wished for Dominique McElligott to be in the final season.Adding context to the entire scenario, he explained that it was a mutual thing, and since Dominique herself had strayed away from acting for the most part, she herself refused to reprise the role all over again. He stated, “I was in conversation with Dom. We still email once in a while. She’s mostly retired from acting, and her schedule didn’t work out. It was all a very friendly, non-controversial thing. I was like, ‘If we wrote it, would you do it?’ And she’s like, ‘I’m kind of out of it, and I’m busy, and unfortunately I can’t, but send everyone my love.’ That was sort of it.”Kripke also quipped that he would have “loved” to have her character back, though at the end of the day, it just did not work out.
When did Dominique McElligott’s Queen Maeve appear in the show
Queen Maeve was the last part of ‘The Boys’ in season 3’s final episode, when she officially gave up her powers in order to defeat Soldier Boy. Later on, she is shown to have faked her own death, with her and Elena opting to live a quiet and seperate life from all of the supes drama. However, there is still a mention to McElligott’s iconic character in the season finale.There is a minor scene that shows Annie advising Marie to “never meet” her heroes. Talking about Queen Maeve, Annie comments, “She was bitter, she was checked out. She gave away so many parts of herself, there was nothing left. … I swore to myself I would never let that happen to me, but it did.”The series finale comes to an with Homelander and Butcher’s death and with all of the remaining members of The Boys heading off into the sunset to live their own lives.
