Raksha Bandhan 2026 Dos And Don’ts: Mistakes To Avoid While Tying Rakhi
Raksha Bandhan 2026 is set for Friday, August 28, bringing with it an auspicious time to perform beloved rituals. It’s important for families to prepare early to avoid mistakes during this meaningful ceremony. Essential rituals include arranging the puja thali and ensuring the rakhi thread is whole. Above all, the celebration’s essence lies in the love and support shared among siblings, with gifts being a beautiful yet secondary consideration.

Raksha Bandhan 2026 is on Friday, August 28. The best time to tie Rakhi in New Delhi is from 5:57 AM to 9:48 AM. As the muhurat is short, families should prepare in advance and ensure they avoid inadvertent mistakes during the rituals.Raksha Bandhan is a holy festival of protection, love, respect, and family bonding. It is not just a decoration. It carries prayer and emotion, blessing and promise of support between brothers and sisters.Mistakes to avoid while tying Rakhi.

1. Do Not Tie Rakhi During Bhadra

Bhadra is not considered auspicious for rituals. Bhadra falls on August 27, 2026. Hence, it is advised to tie Rakhi on the morning of 28th August during the appropriate muhurat.Don’t rush the ceremony just because Purnima has started. Don’t jump in until the moment is right if your family has traditional rules.

2. Do Not Keep the Puja Thali Incomplete

The Rakhi thali should be ready before the ceremony begins. In the thali, put rakhi, roli, rice, diya, sweets, flowers and water. Some families also keep sandalwood paste, mauli, coconut, dry fruits or coins. Don’t look for items at the last minute, as it can disturb the ritual’s peaceful mood.

3. Do Not Use a Broken or Dirty Rakhi

The Rakhi should not be damaged, torn, dirty or badly stored. The thread is a symbol of protection and good wishes. It shouldn’t look shoddy or flimsy. Keep it safely in the thali before you tie it up.

4. Do Not Tie Rakhi in Anger or Hurry

The Rakhi ritual should be performed with love and calm: no arguing, sarcasm, loud words or family tension during the ceremony. If there are minor problems between siblings, always keep the ritual respectful. It’s the energy of the moment that matters.

5. Do Not Forget Tilak and Akshat

Some people do Rakhi quickly and miss out on tilak or rice. But tilak and akshat are important parts of the ritual.Tilak gives blessing and honour. Rice is a symbol of purity, a sign of completeness. Together they make the ceremony more auspicious.

6. Do Not Tie Rakhi on the Wrong Wrist

Traditionally, sisters should tie the rakhi on their brother’s right wrist. Sisters have to be sure of this before starting the ritual. The brother should sit calmly, and the sister should tie the Rakhi with a prayer for his long life, happiness and protection.

7. Do Not Treat the Gift as the Main Ritual

Raksha Bandhan is all about gifts, but the blessing is bigger than the gift. Brothers must give something with respect and not only for the sake of formality. The real value of Raksha Bandhan lies in caring, promising, loving, and supporting each other for life.
