Engagements and weddings are more than just pretty decorations and well‑timed speeches—they’re about turning a deeply personal story into something you can see, taste, and feel. When a couple chooses a theme that truly reflects who they are, it stops feeling like a trend and starts feeling like a memory box waiting to be opened. The same magic happened recently when Brittany Maturan and Bryan Rubio celebrated their engagement with a Ratatouille‑themed party, a concept that felt entirely fresh, incredibly niche, and oddly perfect for them.Social media couldn’t help but notice. The images that started went viral online—softly lit tables, tiny Pixar‑style touches, and food that looked like it leapt straight off the screen—made the celebration feel less like a party and more like a magical scene from the movie itself. For fans of Disney‑Pixar, it was a nostalgic treat; for wedding and party planners, it was inspiration served in pastel tones and carefully planned details.

The engagement that began in Japan

Brittany, a 28‑year‑old Disney lifestyle content creator, and Bryan, 27, first met as children in elementary school, then reconnected by chance at a gym in 2016. Their story moved slowly from friendship to romance, and over the years, they built a relationship that felt grounded, genuine, and—in their own words—“Disney‑ish.” The proposal came not in a crowded theme park, but halfway across the world, during what they thought would be a casual stroll through Osaka Castle in Japan.Brittany told PEOPLE that she genuinely believed Bryan had promised not to propose on their late‑December 2025 trip, mostly so they could enjoy Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea. But hidden behind that “just a walk” was a carefully planned surprise, complete with a secret photographer capturing the moment. The proposal, nestled in the middle of a Japanese winter, quietly set the tone for the kind of thoughtful, story‑driven moments that would define their celebration.Their wedding is now scheduled for June 2027 at Falkner Winery in Temecula, California, but they didn’t want to rush from the romantic proposal straight into a traditional engagement party. Instead, they wanted something that felt like them—a couple known among friends and family as the “Disney couple,” but with a twist that didn’t feel like a theme park promo.

A Ratatouille‑themed evening in real life

When Brittany and Bryan sat down to plan their engagement party, hosted in March 2026 and attended by 75 people, they quickly realised that the usual Pinterest‑vibes and generic “romantic evening” ideas weren’t quite capturing their personality. They browsed TikTok, scrolled through Pinterest, and saw floral arches, neon signs, and classic pastel palettes, but none of it felt instinctively “Brittany and Bryan.”It was Brittany who took the lead, with her mother helping turn the vision into reality. Together, they landed on Ratatouille—the 2007 Pixar film about an ambitious little rat who changes the face of fine dining in Paris—as a theme that was both playful and intimate. The party was held outdoors, styled like a warm, slightly whimsical Parisian bistro, with white chairs, checkered red tablecloths, and the kind of soft lighting that makes everyone’s smile look like it belongs on a movie poster. The menu leaned into the film’s French‑inspired heart: hand‑drawn cookies, mini pizzas, and a signature drink that nodded to the film’s culinary magic. Even the little details were curated—napkins, cups, and tableware that seamlessly matched the Ratatouille aesthetic without feeling like a cartoon parody. The result was a party that looked like it belonged in a Disney‑Pixar corner of real life, where love and food both felt like main characters.Brittany told PEOPLE that they wanted the theme to feel like a reflection of their relationship, not just a flashy backdrop. “When we started thinking about what we wanted our engagement party to look like, we really wanted to focus on us as a couple and how we could celebrate our relationship,” she said. “The typical themes we were seeing didn’t scream ‘Brittany and Bryan’ and didn’t feel authentic to how we live our lives together.”By choosing a Ratatouille theme, they quickly got the “Disney couple” label they’d earned over the years—but did so in a way that felt personal, slightly quirky, and deeply intentional. The party wasn’t about being “too Disney”; it was about celebrating the kind of playful, food‑loving, story‑driven love that already defined them. So, what do you think of Brittany Maturan and Bryan Rubio’s Ratatouille‑themed engagement?
