RCB vs KKR IPL 2025: Rain Keeps Key Battle at Chinnaswamy Ground Under Clouds

The Indian Premier League 2025 got back on track in high hopes as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were to face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in an intense battle at the M Chinnaswamy Ground in Bengaluru. But persistent rain has postponed the match, leaving players and spectators annoyed and unsure if the game would proceed.

This game is especially significant for the two teams as the tournament is in its final stage with playoff destinations yet to be decided.

RCB’s Playoff Push
RCB approached this match in top gear, well-placed second in the points table with 16 points from 11 games. A victory here would have seen them at the top of the points table and the first team to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs.

Piloted by an assured team, RCB have been the most well-balanced side in the tournament, with consistent contributions from their batting and bowling. A top-two qualification would not only seal their ticket but also provide a strategic advantage in the playoffs, with a second opportunity to reach the final.

KKR’s Must-Win Situation
Conversely, Kolkata Knight Riders entered the match against their backs. With only 11 points from their previous games, KKR had to win both of their remaining games to reach a total of 15 points and remain in the playoff contention.

Despite two victories, their destiny is in the hands of other teams doing them a favor. This tense situation has put added pressure on KKR’s season, and they were expecting a change in the weather to test their playoff ambitions on the field.

Rain Halts the Action
As the teams were preparing for this crucial game, the heavens opened over Bengaluru, with incessant rain denying the toss and any play on the ground. The outfield was still damp and the ground crew kept on standby, waiting to get the pitch ready as soon as the rain let up.

For the game to be played, rain must cease in time for at least a five-over-per-side game. The cutoff time for the game to start as a shortened game was 10:56 PM IST, so rain must have stopped around 9:55 PM for any cricket at all to occur. Every minute that passed, the prospects of even a shortened game decreased.

Teams Ready and Waiting
Both teams had made their squads public and were set to take the field.

Both teams appeared to be well-trained, and supporters were looking forward to quality cricket with the likes of Virat Kohli, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Tim David set to leave their mark.

Impact of a Washed-Out Match
If the match is finally abandoned because of rain, RCB would remain in a good position with 16 points but would require at least one more victory to seal their playoff position categorically. KKR, meanwhile, would be out of the playoff contention if no result is possible tonight since they wouldn’t be able to achieve the target points.

This game was more than an ordinary fixture—this was a pivotal juncture for both teams as the IPL 2025 league stage approaches its culmination.

What’s Next?
As players and followers eagerly await the clearing of the skies, the larger tale of the season keeps going. Whilst RCB are almost qualified, they will be seeking to build on momentum with a victory. KKR, on the other hand, are fighting desperately for survival.

No matter what the result of this match, the ferocity of the tournament is reaching new levels with every remaining game determining the playoff landscape. The futures of several teams are hanging in the balance, and every game from now on will be playoff-level business.

Cricket enthusiasts will now have their eyes fixed on the scoreboard as well as the weather, praying that nature permits the match to continue and the players receive an opportunity to fight it out on the pitch.
