‘Tomb Raider’ production gets halted as Sophie Turner suffers from an injury

The new ‘Tomb Raider’ series starring Sophie Turner has hit a snag. Turner, who’s set to play Lara Croft in the reboot series, got hurt during filming. Although it’s not a serious injury, it’s enough to stop production for now. There is no official word about when the production is going to resume. However, here’s all we know about the injury details of the ‘Game of Thrones’ star.

Sophie Turner’s injury halts production: What happened?

Per Entertainment Weekly, Turner’s injury paused filming on the ‘Tomb Raider’ series, where she’s playing the famous adventurer. Amazon MGM Studios put out a statement saying, “Sophie Turner recently experienced a minor injury. As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.”They started filming back in January, and this pause comes right in the early days, which isn’t ideal as it could push the release date for the series much further.Per NewsBytes report, filming should be back on track in about two weeks. Turner’s expected to return once she’s healed. The crew is still getting paid, so the shutdown isn’t anything major; it’s more like a short recovery break.

What is Sophie Turner’s ‘Tomb Raider’ about?

If you have skimmed through the comics, Lara Croft isn’t exactly an easy character to play. Per EW, Turner trained diligently for the character: eight hours a day, five days a week, to get ready for all the action. She even discovered a chronic back problem while prepping for the role, which shows just how tough it’s been. The character demands agility, endurance, and some serious combat skills. Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander both went through similar grueling training for their versions of Lara Croft. For the unversed, ‘Tomb Raider’ has been part of pop culture since the first game came out in 1996, and then came the sequel as well. There were a couple of animated series, and then Alicia Vikander starred in a successful 2018 reboot. This time around, ‘Fleabag’ fame Phoebe Waller-Bridge is running the show. According to the EW report, she’s a longtime fan, and when she joined, she said, “If I could tell my teenage self that this was happening, I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life, and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators.”The upcoming Tomb Raider series is reportedly sticking to the roots: Lara Croft is a brilliant archaeologist and adventurer, traveling the globe, uncovering ancient secrets, fighting enemies, and exploring dangerous places. As for Sophie Turner, she’s already made a mark with her role as Sansa Stark in ‘Game of Thrones’, and has since played Jean Grey in ‘X-Men’, and led projects like ‘Joan’ and ‘Do Revenge’.There’s no official release date for the ‘Tomb Raider’ series yet. Since filming just started in early 2026 and now there’s this short pause, we’re probably looking at late 2026 or maybe 2027 for the show to finally hit screens.
