Stephen Baldwin has had his own fair share of ups and downs throughout his career. However, one of the most awkward yet memorable ones has always been the time he was fired for being funnier than Jennifer Aniston. The actor recently recounted the incident in one of the latest episodes of his podcast, where he shared more details about the matter.

The actor, while talking on his ‘One Bad Movie’ podcast, revealed that he had a weird encounter at one point in his career. Stating that he was fired from the film for a very weird reason, Baldwin shared that “It was when I was really young—coming up. I auditioned to play the sidekick, almost the boyfriend of Jennifer Aniston.”The 60-year-old further stated that he had originally been cast as Vince McBride in ‘The Object of My Affection.’ The role was for Nina Borowski’s boyfriend, who was played by Jennifer Aniston. He added, “After lunch, this producer comes to my trailer and goes, ‘There’s a problem. You can’t be funnier than Jennifer.’”He further added that at first, he assumed that they had been joking; however, later, they gave him more instructions about how he had to simply say his words on screen in front of the camera, which left him in a frazzled state. Feeling “mauled, castrated, comedically,” the actor further shared that he kept wondering, “You hired me to play a role, and now you’re telling me not to play that role.”

After lunch was finished and it was time to get everyone back on track, he was informed that he had been cast out of the film. “They let me go. They told me I could go home. It was all cool, but that was just awkward.”

About ‘The Object of My Affection’

The film was directed by Nicholas Hytner and revolved around the story of a social worker who ends up pregnant because of her boyfriend. However, when she chooses to raise her kid with her gay roommate, played by Paul Rudd, she starts developing feelings for him. John Pankow, who is best known for his roles in ‘Mad About You’, ‘A Stranger Among Us’, and ‘Mortal Thoughts’, replaced Baldwin a few weeks later. The film also stars Allison Janney, Alan Alda, and Tim Daly.
