4 habits that can get you promoted and noticed by your manager

Do you feel stuck at work? You love the job, but the promotion almost looks like a pipe dream. You are working hard, giving your best, and yet no one is noticing – especially your manager. No matter what you do, no one is ‘impressed.’ But people who put in half your effort are winning. Sounds like you? Well, you are not stuck. You just need a better strategy.

Track your weekly wins

Make this a non-negotiable ritual. Every Friday, sit down and make a note of the three best things you achieved that week. Even small wins count. Write down the targets you achieved. Also, if you went the extra mile and delivered more than what was expected of you, mention that. Save this note so when there is a review, you will have clarity and confidence. It’s always best to come prepared.

Share monthly updates with your manager

This step is crucial if you really want a promotion. Every month, set up a meeting with your manager to discuss your contributions. One-on-one meetings are perfect, but if that’s not feasible, you can send your manager a message. Here’s everything you need to convey: what you worked on, the results, key learnings, and suggestions to improve the business. You don’t need extra words. This can do the job.

Ask the right questions

When you have one-on-one meetings, it is important to ask the right questions. Always ask what your manager expects from your role. It is absolutely okay to ask, “What do I need to improve to be seen as ready for the next level?” This simple question opens the door for honest feedback. It also shifts how they see you.

Speak up in meetings

Yes, hard work matters, but so does visibility. It multiplies your impact. Ensure that you speak in every meeting. Maybe it is just a 10-second input, but that still matters. People should know your name. This approach builds trust and strengthens your presence. It also shows that you are willing to take the initiative. Silent contributors are easily forgotten. So, unless you want to be one, speak up.These simple steps, along with your hard work, will help you attract the right attention. You are not stuck; you are invisible. So, do things that help people notice you.
