‘Mere paas itne paise nai they ki logon ko mithai khila sakun: Father shares success secret of his son who scored 498/500

The road to success isn’t the same for everyone. While resilience and perseverance connect these journeys, some stories stand out for the sheer weight of challenges they carry. One such highly inspiring story comes from Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi District of a young boy, Abhay Gupta, whose determination helped him rise well above his circumstances. When the news of Abhay’s remarkable achievement reached home, it was a moment of immense pride, but also a reflection of the reality he grew up in. The young lad secured second rank in the Class 10th state board examination with a commendable 498/500 score. However, this is just the spotlight of his journey. Behind the achievement is the boy’s struggle. According to a Local 18 report, Abhay lives in a structure far from being called a “proper house.” It’s worn down, and almost dilapidated. His father, Kailash Gupta, works as a daily wage labourer in the local fields, and somehow provides for a family of five. Abhay’s family’s financial struggles can be hinted at by one sentence his father said during an interview. “Jab bete ke top karne ki Khabar mili toh khushi toh bohot hui, lekin mere pass itne paise nahin the ki logon ko mithai khila sakun,” (When I heard that my son had topped, I felt immense happiness, but I didn’t have enough money to offer sweets to people). What stands out more in Abhay Gupta’s humble story is the child didn’t celebrate his success extravagantly. The child, who is described as quiet and disciplined, reacted with a simple smile and expressed that he could have scored even better. Certainly, Abhay’s conditions are far from ideal and a talent like him deserves support and opportunity. At the same time his journey also highlights that progress often comes from persistence.

Why persistence is important, especially for students

Persistence matters because it keeps one moving forward when results are not immediately visible. Achieving goals require repeated effort, correction, and patience. While stopping at the first setback seems easier, persistence allows time to turn efforts into meaningful progress. Beyond exams and scores, it is persistence that builds discipline and resilience, the qualities that stay useful in every phase of life.
