In a recent Instagram post, Sudha Murty once again reminded her followers that travel is not just about destinations, it is about perspective. The celebrated author, philanthropist, and Member of Parliament, Sudha Murty shared an interesting video on her Instagram profile to inform the world about the timeless ruins of Dholavira in Gujarat. She has used her travels to narrate stories about India’s culture, history, heritage and values. This time, she was seen standing amid Dholavira, talking about a powerful idea of sustainable living. How the concept is not new but a legacy.Let’s dive in and find more about Dholavira:Dholavira, a lost civilisationSet in the remote region of Kutch in Gujarat, Dholavira is a historic site of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization. It is a prominent UNESCO World Heritage Site nearly 5,000 years old. It also happens to be one of the best-preserved settlements in the world.Murty, in her video, highlighted how the ancient city was a pro in water management, cleanliness, and urban planning. It is astonishing to see a city so well-planned existed long before modern cities. Dholavira was built between two seasonal streams, which was a brilliant idea. It had an advanced system of reservoirs and drainage and sustainable living.Informing about the site, she wrote in her caption: “Dholavira is a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Kutch district of Gujarat. Standing here, I see that sustainable living is not a modern invention. From here one can get cabs or taxis for Dholavira.By rail: Bhuj Railway station is closest and well connected to major cities in India. The ideal time to visit Dholavira is between November and February.
