RJ Balaji has firmly put an end to the rumours surrounding ‘Karuppu’, the much-anticipated film starring Suriya as his 45th project. Ever since the film was announced, reports claimed that the story was first written for Vijay and later reworked for Suriya. Speaking at a college cultural event, the actor-director clarified that the script was never developed with any other actor in mind. He said that he started the story on August 21, 2023, and at the beginning of the story, several possible scenarios and characters came to him, which is a common thing. However, as the narrative took its final shape, Suriya was the only actor he visualised for the lead role.
Suriya was the only choice for ‘Karuppu’
Dismissing the speculation completely, RJ Balaji explained that he narrated just forty minutes of the script to Suriya, and the actor instantly gave his approval, leading to the film going on floors within a month. He stressed that the project was conceived and executed solely for Suriya and not rewritten for anyone else. The clarification, reported by Cinema Express, has now silenced the long-standing rumors about the film’s casting. His statement also showed the strong mutual trust between the actor and the director, which helped the film move forward at a very fast pace.
Suriya–Trisha combination promises fun
In the same report, RJ Balaji also spoke warmly about casting Trisha in the film. He noted that Suriya and Trisha are veteran actors with decades of experience and have a strong grasp of films, making it easy to get along with them. According to him, their scenes together will be lively and enjoyable for the audience. The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Indrans, Mansoor Ali Khan, Natty, Swasika, Anagha Maya Ravi, Supreeth Reddy, and Sshivada, while RJ Balaji himself will be seen in a cameo role.
Music change and fast-paced post-production
On the technical front, ‘Karuppu’ has music composed by Sai Abhyankkar, cinematography by GK Vishnu, and editing by Kalaivanan. RJ Balaji revealed that A. R. Rahman was initially supposed to score the film, but could not continue due to unavoidable reasons. Though the team was surprised at first by Sai Abhyankkar’s addition, the director said the young composer’s energy has become a major strength and has added great value to the film. The background score work is currently progressing in full swing, and with post-production moving quickly, fans are now eagerly waiting for the official release date.
