‘The Mummy’ ending explained: What really happened with Katie Cannon, and how did the horror film end
Elated by the return of their kidnapped daughter, a family soon faces unimaginable terror as a dark force, long sealed within her, awakens. An ill-fated attempt to exorcise the demon leads to it being transferred to the father instead. Consumed by rage, the family plots to unleash their new adversary upon the sinister captor who tore them apart.

Lee Cronin’s ‘The Mummy’ was this year’s one of the most anticipated horror releases. As per many netizens online, the film did not disappoint and was a big hit amongst many fans. Here is a look at what happened in the film, along with what really happened with the story’s main character, little Katie Cannon.

More about ‘The Mummy’ and what happened

From the get-go, the film takes a dark turn after Katie Cannon is kidnapped in Egypt while on vacation with her family. However, after 8 long years of thinking that she was dead, the family gets the news that she is alive and well. The family brings her back to Albuquerque, though something sinister comes along with them. It is revealed that a woman named the Magician kidnapped the little girl to perform a ritual and trap an evil spirit in her body. The evil, also known as the Nasmaranian, was once called the ‘Destroyer of Family’; however, because of the Magician and her family, it ceased to exist in folklore. Katie was used as the next living body to trap the Nasmaranian; however, the Egyptian government was planning on flooding the area where the body was trapped. A plane crash occurred, and Katie was discovered trapped in an ancient sarcophagus.

Katie and the evil demon are at war with one another

It is shown early on that Katie is still alive somewhere in her body and is at war to gain control of it with the demon. From the get-go, she is sedated because of her violent outbursts and her cunning ability to hurt others, though things get worse day by day. Slowly, Charlie uncovers the truth and believes that something is wrong with their daughter. When Larissa cuts off Katie’s skin while trimming her nails, Charlie finds remains of the enchanted clothes that were used to keep Katie and the demon trapped, covered in ancient language writings. More and more about the ritual is revealed, sharing that the pieces of cloth are quite literally baked into the skin of the host in order to trap the demon.

What really happened at the end of ‘The Mummy’ and to Katie Cannon?

Nearing the end, a recording of the ritual performed on Katie is sent to the Cannons through the Magician’s daughter, and the family is able to transfer the demon out of Katie and into Charlie. He is then trapped in the basement of their home, without many of the safeguards that were being used in Egypt, including the ancient room, the magical cloth, and a scarab that is used to subdue the powers of the ancient evil. The family visits him again and again on a regular basis. The end shows that the Cannons, along with Detective Zaki, visit the Magician in her prison cell. It is revealed that to take revenge for their daughter’s abduction, they wish to transfer the evil to the Magician instead.
