Purnima is the most significant day in Sanatan Dharma and Guru Purnima is one of the most auspicious day. On this specific day, Guru is honored – Guru can be your spiritual Guru, your mentor, your teacher who taught you in school, your guide in life and even your mother and father. According to Panchang, Guru Purnima is observed on Purnima Tithi in the month of Ashadha. Let’s check out the correct date for celebrating Guru Purnima:

Guru Purnima 2026: Significance

Purnima is one of the most auspicious days in Hindu religion and people observe this day with immense devotion and offer prayers to Lord Vishnu and Moon God. There are twelve Purnima observances in a year and Guru Purnima is one of the most prominent Purnima’s. The day is dedicated to honor Guru (spiritual Guru, mentor, teacher, guide, parents, siblings and others).

Who is Guru?

Guru is the one, who shows you the right path in life. You should honor your Guru on this particular day and make them feel special. Guru is the one, who tells you the correct way of living a life. Guru is not the one who always praise you but the one, who tells your mistake and encourages you to learn from them.

How to celebrate Guru Purnima?

You wake up early in the morning and clean the house. Take a holy bath and seek blessings of your elders (parents and elder siblings). Offer Arghya or water to Lord Surya. Worship Lord Ganesha first as he represents knowledge and wisdom. Then you can chant the Guru mantra if you have taken the deeksha. After that you should visit your spiritual Guru if you have. You are advised to express your gratitude to your Guru and take the blessings. You can offer clothes, fruits, shoes and dakshina.
