Who was Shakeel Khan? Pakistani-American restaurant owner shot in 2019, reward raised to $5 million for information on suspect

Authorities in the United States have increased the reward to up to $5 million for information that leads to the arrest or conviction of the person responsible for the murder of Shakeel Khan, a 50‑year‑old restaurant owner who was shot dead in 2019.Pakistani‑American Khan was gunned down on the evening of March 30, 2019, outside his restaurant, Halal Bites, on Riverside Drive in Johnson City. Police say the killing was carried out in an execution‑style shooting just as he was closing the business for the night.Despite years of investigation by local and federal law enforcement, no one has been arrested in connection with the killing. The case remains open and active, with authorities continuing to appeal to the public for help.In 2020, police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) offered a $50,000 reward for information that could lead to an arrest. That initial offer did not produce an arrest, and now, after 6 years, the department has raised the money to a whopping $5 million. Now, the United States Department of State’s Rewards for Justice Programme has publicly announced a new offer of up to $5 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of the individual or individuals involved in Khan’s murder, in any country. The reward is being described as a high‑value incentive to encourage tips from the public. The FBI’s Albany Field Office in Binghamton, New York, is working with the New York State Police and the Johnson City Police Department on the investigation. All three agencies are seeking information from anyone who may have knowledge about the crime.Authorities say they believe someone out there may have key information and are urging people to come forward. Investigators are asking witnesses, acquaintances and others in the community to contact them if they can help shed light on what happened.Khan’s family and friends have also expressed their desire for justice, saying they hope the increased reward leads to a breakthrough. Investigators say anyone with information can contact the FBI or local police to assist with the case.
