NEW DELHI: India national cricket team have dropped to sixth place in the latest World Test Championship standings after Bangladesh national cricket team completed a brilliant 2-0 Test series sweep over Pakistan at home.Bangladesh moved ahead of India after winning both Tests convincingly. They first defeated Pakistan by 104 runs in Mirpur and followed it up with another strong win in the second Test. As a result, Bangladesh climbed to fifth place in the WTC table with 58.33 percentage points.India, meanwhile, slipped to sixth despite having more total points because the rankings are based on percentage points rather than overall points earned.Led by Shubman Gill, India have had an inconsistent start to the current WTC cycle. The team has played nine Tests so far, winning four, losing four and drawing one.India’s poor results included a 0-2 home series defeat against South Africa national cricket team and two losses during their England tour, where the five-match series ended 2-2.Interestingly, India have not played a Test match yet this year. They are scheduled to face Afghanistan in a one-off Test in June, but that match will not count towards the WTC standings.Later in the year, India will tour Sri Lanka and New Zealand for important two-Test series that could heavily influence their chances of reaching another WTC final. At the top of the table, Australia national cricket team remain firmly in first place with 87.50 percentage points after winning seven out of eight Tests.New Zealand are second in the standings, followed by South Africa and Sri Lanka. Pakistan remain down in eighth place after managing just one win from four Tests in the current WTC cycle.
