'Mortal Kombat II' box office collection Day 1: Karl Urban starrer makes Rs 1.65 crore India debut; outperforms 'Daadi Ki Shaadi' and 'Krishnavataram'

The Hollywood action film ‘Mortal Kombat II’ was off to a good start at the Indian box office. The film starring Karl Urban of ‘The Boys’ fame in the lead role, not only opened to good collections, but also came out on top, earning the highest box office collection for a new release.The film that opened in cinemas on Friday, sharing the box office business with films like ‘Daadi Ki Shaadi’ and ‘Krishnavataram’, began its box office run on a stronger-than-expected note, collecting Rs 1.65 crore gross on Day 1.As per reports on Sacnilk, the film registered a total gross collection of Rs 1.65 crore in India. The film had a wide debut across 4,543 shows in India. This roughly translates into an estimated Rs 1.40 crore net collection on its first day.In comparison, Neetu Kapoor’s family drama ‘Daadi Ki Shaadi’ lagged behind, earning a net total of Rs 60 lakh on Day 1 from 1,789 shows. Its total India gross stands at 72 lakh.Meanwhile, the devotional epic ‘Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart’ opened to a modest response at the Indian box office. Directed by Hardik Gajjar, the film which has generated buzz for its visually rich portrayal of Lord Krishna’s journey, managed to rake in an estimated Rs 50 lakh gross on its opening day.With the opening day numbers setting the tone, all eyes will now be on weekend trends to see whether ‘Mortal Kombat II’ can sustain momentum in India and emerge as this weekend’s highest earning film. The film also outperformed the biopic ‘Michael’, which earned an estimated Rs 1.50 crore on Day 15.‘Mortal Kombat’ also beat out ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ which earned an estimated Rs 1.20 crore on its second Friday.
