‘Karuppu’ faced unexpected release trouble before finally reaching theatres with massive fan celebrations. The Suriya starrer was originally scheduled to release on May 14, and fans had already gathered outside theatres for early morning shows. But, due to last-minute problems in finance and production, the movie’s release was delayed, resulting in the cancellation of many FDFS shows across Tamil Nadu. After the issues were sorted out overnight, ‘Karuppu’ finally released on May 15 and opened to huge celebrations, loud cheers, and packed theatres across the state.

RJ Balaji and Karthi surprise fans at Chennai FDFS

The excitement became even bigger in Chennai when director R. J. Balaji, actress Trisha, and actor Karthi joined fans during the film’s first day, first show celebration. Videos from theatres quickly went viral online as fans welcomed the stars with drums, fireworks, and confetti. RJ Balaji was seen thanking audiences for standing by the team during the release struggle. Karthi’s surprise appearance also created a festival-like atmosphere inside the theatre. Fans cheered loudly as the team watched the film along with the audience, making the FDFS celebration one of the most talked-about cinema events in Chennai.

‘Karuppu’ becomes the first film to call Vijay ‘Chief Minister’

One of the biggest talking points from the film came from its title card. Before the film began, the makers displayed a special thank-you note mentioning Vijay as “Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay.” The moment immediately grabbed fans’ attention inside theatres and later went viral on social media. Interestingly, many online users pointed out that ‘Karuppu’ became the first Tamil film to address Vijay as Chief Minister even before ‘Jana Nayagan.‘ The special mention created huge excitement among Vijay fans and added another layer of buzz around the film’s release.

About ‘Karuppu’

Directed by RJ Balaji, ‘Karuppu’ is a commercial action entertainer mixed with emotional and rural elements. The film reportedly revolves around justice, power, and the fight against corruption in a village backdrop. Trisha Krishnan plays the female lead opposite Suriya, while the supporting cast includes several popular actors in important roles. The film’s music was composed by Sai Abhyankkar, whose songs and background score have already received positive responses from fans.
