'Karuppu' box office collections day 2: Suriya and Trisha Krishnan's film surges 51%; crosses Rs 66.04 Cr worldwide

Suriya’s ‘Karuppu’ directed by RJ Balaji is maintaining strong momentum at the box office, with a notable jump in collections on its second day. The film continues to draw audiences steadily which is backed by encouraging word-of-mouth and improving occupancy trends across regions.

Box office breakdown of ‘Karuppu’

As per Sacnilk data, the film earned Rs 23.40 crore on Saturday, marking a 51% rise compared to its opening day collection of Rs 15.50 crore. The movie was screened across 6,288 shows on Day 2, taking its cumulative India net to Rs 38.90 crore and India gross to Rs 45.04 crore. Internationally, Karuppu added Rs 10 crore on its second day, pushing the overseas total to Rs 21 crore. With this, the worldwide gross has climbed to Rs 66.04 crore within just two days of release.

Occupancy trends for the Suriya starrer

Audience turnout improved across the board on Day 2 especially during evening and night shows. Tamil screenings showed consistently high engagement with peak occupancy crossing the 80% mark at night. The film’s Tamil version continues to dominate its earnings, contributing Rs 19.75 crore on Day 2 with strong occupancy levels of around 64%. Telugu markets added Rs 3.65 crore, while other regions also contributed to the overall growth. State-wise gross figures for Day 2 show Tamil Nadu at Rs 16.25 crore, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana at ₹Rs 50 lakhs, Karnataka at Rs 3.60 crore, Kerala at Rs 2.15 crore, and Rest of India at Rs 61 lakhs.

ETimes review

The ETimes review reads, “What makes Karuppu initially engaging is how firmly it roots itself in the legal proceedings surrounding a stolen jewels case involving Indrans and Anagha Maaya Ravi, who play a helpless father and daughter. The first half spends considerable time building investment in their desperation, vulnerability and pursuit of justice, which in turn gives the film both its emotional core and its most effective mass-movie hook: the idea of an ordinary man challenging a God forced to live and behave as a mortal. We have Baby Kannan (RJ Balaji, in effective mode), a crafty lawyer who has gamed the system for so long that even the judge, Rajanayagam (Natty Subramaniam), appears to dance to his tunes. Even the one truthful lawyer in the courtroom, Preethi (Trisha Krishnan), struggles to win cases despite being able to prove malpractice. So, when Baby Kannan boldly challenges Vettai Karuppu (Suriya, in full aura-farming mode), the deity who descends to help the father-daughter duo, to win the case without resorting to divine powers, Karuppu finds genuine dramatic tension because the conflict feels rooted in human stakes rather than divine invincibility.”DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and the data in this article are compiled from public and industry sources.
