‘A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms’ ending explained: What happens at the end of the famed ‘GoT’ spinoff
The Seven Kingdoms are a little less crowded, but the stakes have never been higher. As the dust settles on the final episodes of the Game of Thrones prequel, fans are left deconstructing the fates of Ser Duncan the Tall and his diminutive squire, Egg.

‘A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms’ is the latest entry in the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe. As the final episode of the series played out, the Trial of Seven came to an end. The final episode of the series picks up after the battle of Ashford Tourney itself. Here is an explainer about what all took place in the series finale of the already beloved OTT show.

‘A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms’ ending explained

The Targaryens lose after the first-ever Trial of Seven battle is held in a hundred years. Dunk, who is injured in the battle, finds himself at House Bartheon after Ser Lyonel Baratheon offers him a place on the council. In the aftermath, after Prince Baelor Targaryen died, fighting in Ser Duncan the Tall’s honor, the family prepares for a proper funeral and sends off to his next life.Baelor’s son, Prince Valarr Targaryen, mentions at the funeral that his father died in battle with his armour still on him. Dunk attends the procession as well and pays his respects. Dunk already feels bad about being left behind while his close friend was killed in battle, and Valarr also ponders why his father was the one who died and not Dunk.Meanwhile, Ser Raymun Fossoway reassures Dunk that he is not blaming him for Baelor’s passing, and also informs him of the good news that he and Rowan have decided to tie the knot. Dunk and Lady Rowan meet just then, and they pretend that they do not know each other as Dunk congratulates him.

Ser Duncan and Prince Maekar meet, and the latter blames Dunk again

While having a conversation, Maekar says that he is planning on sending his son to the East to live in the Free Cities, hoping that the stay will bring some change in his son’s behaviour. However, he also tells Dunk that the rumors that he was the one who killed Baelor will run in the wild until the day he dies. He further suggests that Dunk is the one to blame for the king’s death rather than taking responsibility of his son’s actions. Dunk also gets to know that Egg wishes to squire only for him. Maekar asks that Dunk pledge his loyalty to him and only him, after which he will allow Egg to do as he wishes. Meanwhile, Egg is standing by the door outside, listening in on everything. Later on, Egg also approaches Dunk about the same; however, he simply apologizes to him about the squireship. Egg retaliates because of his emotions and comments about how Dunk is not the kind of knight he once thought him to be.

What happens to Dunk and Egg at the end of the show

In the final episode, Dunk leaves Ashford for good; however, he first knocks an oak tree with a coin to honor his late mentor. Following this, Egg goes to Dunk and tells him that his father told him to squire for him. Dunk congratulates him and also leaves his horse Chetnut in his care as well before he leaves Ashford. Dunk and Egg then talk about how the nine kingdoms in the realm actually exist. Dunk and Egg head out to their own journey as it shows that Ser Arlan’s ghost officially moves on from the place.
