Mayim Bialik, who is best known for her work in ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ has been quite open about her weight loss journey. In a recent interview, she admitted relying on pills as well for some part of it. During her candid conversation, she further highlighted how a single dose of the medication left her dealing with some serious health issues.
Mayim Bialik opens up about taking weight loss medication
The actress got candid in an open essay, which was shared by the Free Press. The 50-year-old actress cited that she initially tried one dose of GLP-1 medicine, a popular weight loss medication, which she had been recommended by her doctors.“I went on a weight-loss drug because a doctor told me it might help ease symptoms I’ve struggled with for basically my entire adult life,” she mentioned. The medication left her reeling from severe gastrointestinal symptoms. The actress shared that her doctors believed that the medication could help with things such as Graves’ disease, connective tissue disease, mast cell activation syndrome, Sjogren’s syndrome, and dysautonomia.The actress mentioned that as a child, weight was not a concerning matter for her. However, during her teenage days, when she took the pills, she started gaining more weight. “I took one shot of the lowest dose of a synthetic GLP-1, and to say I had an adverse reaction would be somewhat of an understatement,” Bialik recalled.Further in her essay, she also detailed her symptoms, citing that the medication did not work for her and instead caused her symptoms like diarrhea, severe bloating, cramping, and full-body aches. Not only that, but she was also unable to keep down food or water.On the work front, the 50 year old actress last appeared in the stcom show ‘Night Court’ last year. Other than that, she was once a host on ‘Jeopardy!’, though took a step back from the show to focus on her podcast. Currently, she is actively posting episodes on her podcast titled ‘Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown.’ Other than this, she also appeared in the film ‘Father Mother Sister Brother’ last year as well.
