Nicholas Brendon, best known for playing Xander Harris in the hit vampire TV series, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, has passed away. He was 54.His family confirmed the news in a statement shared on his Instagram account, saying, “We are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon.” In their note, his family revealed Brendon’s cause of death, noting that he “passed in his sleep of natural causes.“

The statement further reflected on his life and passions, adding, “Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and for the characters he brought to life over the years. In recent years Nicky has found his passion in painting and art. Nicky loved to share his enthusiastic talent with his family, friends and fans. He was passionate, sensitive, and endlessly driven to create. Those who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was. While it’s no secret that Nicholas had struggles in the past, he was on medications and treatment to manage his diagnosis and he was optimistic about the future at the time of his passing”The family concluded by saying, “Our family asks for privacy during this time as we grieve his loss and celebrate the life of a man who lived with intensity, imagination, and heart. Thank you to everyone who has shown love and support.”

Brendon had previously revealed in 2023 that he suffered a heart attack and had been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. He also lived with cauda equina syndrome, which required multiple spinal surgeries.

News of his demise comes just days after Sarah Michelle Gellar confirmed that a planned reboot of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ reboot will no longer move forward. In a social media post, she said, “Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with ‘Buffy: New Sunnydale’. I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me,” she added.Gellar thanked director Chloe Zhao, saying, “I want to thank Chloe Zhao, because I never thought I would find myself back in Buffy’s stylish yet affordable boots. Thanks to Chloe, I was reminded how much I love her and how much she means not only to me but to all of you. And this doesn’t change any of that.” Ending on a lighter note, she added, “And I promise if the apocalypse actually comes, you can still beep me.”
