Worshippers planning to observe i’tikaf in the final stretch of Ramadan can now apply, as authorities have opened registration for the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah. The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque confirmed that registration opened on Friday, 3 Ramadan 1447H, at 11 a.m.I’tikaf will begin on 20 Ramadan and continue until the end of 30 Ramadan, in line with the approved organisational plan for the holy month.Applications must be submitted electronically through the official portal:https://eservices.alharamain.gov.sa/loginApplicants are required to:

  • Log in or create a new account on the portal
  • Alternatively access the system through the Nafath platform (for citizens and residents)
  • Select the designated i’tikaf location, either the Grand Mosque in Makkah or the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah
  • Agree to the terms and conditions
  • Complete the required information and submit the application

Successful applicants will receive a text message confirming their acceptance along with nomination details.

Organised and regulated environment

The authority reiterated that arrangements are designed to ensure worshippers can perform i’tikaf in a safe, organised and spiritually focused environment throughout Ramadan. Many Muslims choose to spend the final ten days of Ramadan in i’tikaf, dedicating themselves fully to worship and stepping away from worldly distractions. The practice follows the example of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. While the Sunnah is to observe i’tikaf for ten days, it is permissible for at least one day and one night. As the last ten nights approach, the registration window now allows worshippers to prepare for this period of reflection at Islam’s two holiest sites.
