Gujarat’s ‘Bulldozer Justice’: Crackdown on Criminals Gains Momentum

The Gujarat government has intensified its crackdown on criminals through a campaign termed “Dada ka Bulldozer.” Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced that the government is adopting a “whole-of-government” approach to dismantle illegal activities and properties linked to offenders, including bootleggers and those involved in gambling, rioting, and property crimes.

Since the campaign began, authorities have demolished 77 illegal structures and cut off 200 illegal electricity connections. Patel emphasized that this action is part of a broader strategy to improve public safety and uphold law and order. The government claims the initiative is data-driven and unbiased, focusing solely on illegal activities without political or communal considerations.

The campaign is modeled after similar drives in Uttar Pradesh, where bulldozing illegal properties became a symbol of swift action against crime. Patel defended the campaign, stating that it aims to send a clear message to offenders while restoring public confidence in the legal system.

Opposition parties, however, have criticized the drive as politically motivated and selectively enforced. Critics argue that the government is using the bulldozer approach to target specific communities and suppress dissent. Patel rejected these claims, asserting that the crackdown is aimed purely at curbing criminal activity and improving governance.

The Gujarat government has directed district authorities and police to identify and act against illegal structures linked to crime. Patel also highlighted that the drive is intended to deter future illegal activities and maintain peace and order in the state.

Public opinion on the campaign remains divided. While some residents have welcomed the government’s firm stance against criminals, others have expressed concern over potential misuse of power and the lack of due process. Patel assured that all actions are being conducted within the framework of the law, and efforts are being made to ensure that innocent people are not affected.

As the campaign progresses, the Gujarat government remains firm on its strategy, with Patel vowing to continue the drive until all illegal properties linked to criminal activities are removed. The administration believes that the “bulldozer approach” will not only curb crime but also reinforce the rule of law across the state.
