Veteran lyricist Sameer Anjaan has criticised the current state of Bollywood music, calling Gen-Z songs “jarring noise.” In a recent interaction, he said excessive sound is overpowering meaningful lyrics, affecting both songs and films. He stressed that music plays a key role in a film’s success and warned that unless balance is restored between melody and lyrics, the soul of Hindi film music will continue to fade.

Veteran Bollywood lyricist Sameer Anjaan has lashed out at the current state of Hindi film music, calling modern Gen-Z melodies nothing more than “jarring noise.” The veteran behind thousands of iconic film songs opened up about what’s not working in the current state of Bollywood music. Sameer Anjaan on Bollywood’s music crisis

In an interaction with DNA India, Sameer Anjaan talked about the state of contemporary Bollywood music. Without holding back, he said, “Aaj kal shor bahut badh gaya hai. Sound mein shabd kho gaye hain (These days, the noise has increased so much that words are getting lost in the sound).”He pointed out that lyrics are increasingly being drowned out by loud, overpowering music, and this imbalance is hurting not just individual songs but entire films, given how deeply music shapes a movie’s success.Sameer concluded with a stark warning that unless the industry consciously restores the balance between melody and meaningful lyrics, the soul of Hindi film music will keep fading.

Born as Shitala Pandey and popularly known as Sameer or Sameer Anjaan, he is a renowned Indian lyricist celebrated for his extensive work in Bollywood. Reportedly, he holds a Guinness World Record for penning the highest number of songs, making him one of the most prolific songwriters in the industry. He marked his debut as a lyricist in 1983 with the film ‘Bekhabar’.The veteran lyricist has given massive hit tracks. Songs from Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, to ‘Rowdy Rathore’ tracks such as ‘Chinta Ta Ta Chita Chita’, ‘Chikni Kamar Pe Teri Mera Dil Fisal Gaya’, to ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ title track, ‘Kheech Meri Photo’, and many more. He recently penned the lyrics of the song ‘Bol Kaffara Kya Hoga’ from the Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa starrer ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’.
