Quote of the day by Will Smith: 'Everything you have, everybody you love is going to rise and fall in your life. I trust life...'

Will Smith didn’t just become an actor. He became a cultural phenomenon. From ‘Bad Boys’ to ‘Independence Day’ to ‘Men in Black’ to ‘I Am Legend’ to ‘Aladdin’. He’s been in some of the biggest blockbusters in cinema history. He’s won Academy Awards. He’s been nominated for the Golden Globes. He’s been one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood for decades. He’s done comedy. He’s done drama. He’s done action. He’s transitioned from music to film to television seamlessly. He’s been married multiple times. He’s had massive public struggles. He’s been at the absolute top of success, and he’s also been through periods where everything seemed to be falling apart. And through all of it, he’s learned something fundamental about what actually matters. Thus, he once said, “Everything you have, everybody you love is going to rise and fall in your life. I trust life that whatever happens, I am going to make happy out of it.”

Quote of the day by Will Smith

“Everything you have, everybody you love is going to rise and fall in your life. I trust life that whatever happens, I am going to make happy out of it.”Will Smith shared this during a candid appearance on the podcast ‘Drink Champs’ in 2025. This wasn’t a polished interview where he was promoting a new film. This was Will Smith opening up about his journey, the emotional aftermath of recent events, and how his perspective on happiness has evolved. He wasn’t talking as a movie star. He was talking as someone who has lived through enough to actually understand what he’s saying. He talked about two extreme emotional states that he called “rock bottom” and “cliff top.” Rock bottom is where you lose everything. Where life falls apart. Where you’re struggling and broken and desperate. But then he said, reaching the peak of success, reaching the cliff top, can be just as unsettling. You can achieve everything. Money. Fame. Relationships. And still feel empty. Both extremes, according to Will Smith, ultimately lead to the same question: what truly makes us happy? And his answer is revolutionary in an industry built on the idea that external success is everything. He said that external factors like wealth or recognition may create temporary excitement, but they do not sustain long-term fulfillment. When people enjoy relationships or success, what they’re really enjoying is the feeling those experiences create within them. The source of happiness is internal, not external.

What does it actually mean?

Will Smith is describing something that most people spend their entire lives learning. That everything is temporary. Everything rises and falls. The relationships you have right now might change. The success you’ve built might crumble. The money might disappear. The fame might fade. Nothing is permanent. Nothing is stable. And that’s actually liberating once you understand it.Because if everything rises and falls anyway, then the only thing you can actually control is how you respond to it. Will Smith says he trusts life. That whatever happens, he’s going to make happy out of it. He’s not saying he’s happy all the time. He’s not saying bad things don’t hurt. He’s saying that he’s committed to finding happiness or creating happiness regardless of his circumstances. That’s a radical shift from the way most people approach life. Most people think happiness comes from external circumstances. If I get this job, I’ll be happy. If I make this much money, I’ll be happy. If I meet this person, I’ll be happy. If I achieve this goal, I’ll be happy. But Will Smith has been at the absolute top. He’s had all of those things. And he’s also been through public scandals and personal struggles that most people would consider rock bottom. And he’s learned that happiness doesn’t actually come from any of those external things. It comes from inside you. From your perspective. From your decision to find meaning and happiness regardless of what is happening around you.In the entertainment industry, this is especially important to understand. Because entertainment is built on the illusion that external success will solve everything. That if you become famous, if you win an award, if you make enough money, you’ll finally be happy. But Will Smith is saying that’s backwards. Happiness comes first, from within. The external stuff is just a bonus. The part about everything rising and falling is crucial. Will Smith isn’t saying you shouldn’t care about relationships or success. He’s saying you should understand that they’re temporary. That they come and go. And when they come, enjoy them. When they go, don’t let that destroy you. Because your ability to be happy, your internal peace, doesn’t depend on whether you’re at rock bottom or cliff top. It depends on your choice to find happiness regardless.
