A ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ ramps up season 2 with returning leads and new cast additions

A ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’, beloved ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off, gears up for its second season with a mix of familiar faces and exciting new additions. Production is underway on the six-episode arc, adapting George R.R. Martin’s novella ‘The Sworn Sword,’ set to premiere in 2027.

Core duo returns

Peter Claffey reprises his role as the towering, honorable Ser Duncan the Tall, or “Dunk,” the wandering hedge knight at the story’s heart. Dexter Sol Ansell also returns as young Prince Aegon Targaryen, disguised as “Egg,” whose sharp wit and hidden royal ties deepen their bond amid a brutal drought. These two anchors promise more intimate adventures far from grand thrones, focusing on loyalty and quiet tensions.

Season 1 stars exit

Most of the first season’s ensemble bids farewell, as the tale shifts to isolated rural lands away from royal courts. No returns for Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen, Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen, Henry Ashton as Daeron Targaryen, Shaun Thomas as Raymun Fossoway, Edward Ashley as Ser Steffon Fossoway, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Danny Webb as Ser Arlan of Pennytree, Youssef Kerkour as Steely Pate, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor as Plummer, or Daniel Monks as Ser Manfred Dondarrion. Targaryens like Aerion Brightflame and Maekar stay absent, echoing distant politics from Daeron II’s reign.

Fresh faces join the party

New cast members breathe life into key figures from ‘The Sworn Sword.’ Lucy Boynton joins as Lady Rohanne Webber, the fierce “Red Widow” ruling Coldmoat with cunning and defiance against Westeros norms. Paul Chahidi, Steven Hartley, Mimi Joffroy, Kwaku Mills, and Craig Parkinson round out Houses Osgrey and Webber, likely as Ser Eustace Osgrey, the Blackfyre loyalist; Ser Lucas Inchfield; and allies in their water feud.Showrunner Ira Steven Behr calls it his favorite novella, praising “three exceptionally talented actors” for Rohanne, Ser Bennis the Brown, and Eustace. He noted filming challenges but excitement as scenes took shape.

What lies ahead

This pivot to personal stakes amid scarcity swaps tourney spectacle for gritty house rivalries. Fans anticipate Egg and Dunk’s evolving dynamic, strained by class and secrets. With HBO’s track record, season 2 builds on the spin-off’s grounded charm, teasing more Westeros lore without dragons or wars.
