Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Kumar, former Scientist ‘F’ and Deputy Director at the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CSIR-CIMFR), Dhanbad, has spent nearly 35 years building a career around scientific research, innovation and the practical application of technology for wider societal benefit.
During his long association with CSIR-CIMFR, one of India’s premier national research laboratories, Prof. Kumar worked at the intersection of science, technology, industry and society. His research contributions include approximately 25 scientific papers published in national and international journals, reflecting a sustained commitment to knowledge creation and scientific inquiry.
His work has also resulted in practical innovation. One of his notable achievements is a patent for the Nano-Tenge Mask, an aspirator filter designed to provide protection against COVID-19 and hazardous environments. The innovation holds particular relevance for miners working in underground coal mines, connecting his scientific expertise with the demanding occupational conditions faced by workers in the mining sector.

His contributions have received recognition through several honours and platforms. He has been conferred the Desh Ratna Award and recognised through the USA World Book of Records and London Book of Records. He has also received an Honorary PhD from United Nations Peace University.
His work has received wider visibility through a feature in The Entrepreneurs of India Magazine, Edition 70, as well as coverage in The Washington Post in connection with the Rashtriya Pratibha Samman Samaroh 2025. In 2026, Prof. Kumar added another milestone to his professional journey when he attended the Global Ayush Conference and Awards in Ranchi, Jharkhand, where he was invited as a Guest Keynote Speaker.
