India Represses Hard Line on Pakistan, Insists on Surrender of Terror Suspects

New Delhi, May 15, 2025 — India has again stated firmly its stance on Pakistan, indicating that any future talks between the two countries shall be strictly focused on counterterrorism alone. The Indian government insisted that Pakistan scrap its terror network and surrender persons engaged in cross-border terror.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stressed that Pakistan has a list of wanted terrorists and needs to take strong action by extraditing them to India. He added that substantive conversation could only happen if the conversation is on countering terrorism and not on other unconnected political issues.

In a major diplomatic gesture, India has also made the decision to extend the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. The government made it clear that the treaty will continue to stay in abeyance till Pakistan shows credible and irreversible actions to end terrorism emanating from its territory.

These events come on the heels of the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region, which claimed many lives. As a retaliatory measure, India initiated a specific operation against the terrorist outfits presumed to be acting from the other side of the border. Though a ceasefire was subsequently announced, Indian leadership holds the position that the war against terror will not be undermined.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured that India will not be intimidated or threatened, and the nation will react resolutely to protect its citizens. The leadership remains firm in reiterating that state sponsors of terrorism will be made accountable, underlining India’s unyielding stance on national security.

India’s message to Pakistan is still clear: no normalization of ties until tangible and verifiable steps are taken towards dismantling terror networks and putting the perpetrators of terror on trial.
