Everyone feels tired sometimes. But if you are exhausted most days, there is usually a reason. Here are some common ones.
1. Poor sleep quality
Late-night screens, irregular timings and noise can stop you from getting deep sleep even if you are in bed for eight hours.
2. Not enough water
Mild dehydration can cause headaches and low energy.
3. Skipping meals or eating mostly sugar
Sugary snacks give a quick spike and a quick fall. Regular meals with protein and fibre keep energy steadier.
4. Too little movement
It sounds odd, but regular light exercise often increases energy.
5. Stress
Constant worry uses up mental energy. Short breaks, walks and talking to someone can help.
6. Low iron or vitamin levels
Deficiencies in iron, vitamin B12 and vitamin D are common and can cause tiredness. These need a blood test to confirm.
7. Too much caffeine
Too many cups of tea or coffee, especially late in the day, can affect sleep.
8. An underlying medical condition
Thyroid problems, anaemia, diabetes and sleep apnoea can all cause ongoing fatigue.
When to see a doctor
If tiredness lasts for weeks, or comes with weight change, breathlessness or low mood, see a doctor. This article is general information, not medical advice.
