Grenade Thrown at BJP Leader Manoranjan Kalia’s Home in Jalandhar Creates Security Issues

In a dramatic incident that has evoked political and public interest, a grenade was hurled at the house of top BJP leader and ex-Punjab minister Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar in the wee hours of April 8, 2025. The attack was made at 1 a.m. in which the door of the house, a car, and a motorcycle parked within the compound were damaged. Luckily, there were no injuries because Kalia and his family members who were on site at that moment were unharmed.

Early probe found the assailant reaching the location on an e-rickshaw, stepping out temporarily to hurl the grenade at the house, and escaping in the same vehicle. The entire activity was recorded in CCTV footage, and security units are now piecing together visuals to track down the suspect. The blast was extensive, inflicting serious damage to the home in the shape of a smashed side door as well as glass window panes shattered in the kitchen and bath area.

Senior police officers arrived on the scene minutes after the attack. A senior-level probe is on, with forensic experts analyzing the remains of the grenade and other material taken from the scene. Security has been enhanced in the region and patrols have been stepped up at major points of entry such as bus terminals and railway stations.

This attack comes on the heels of a similar grenade explosion in March at the home of a local YouTuber in another area of Jalandhar, sparking serious doubts about public safety and increasing worries about a trend of such violent attacks.

Political responses were quick, with opposition leaders condemning the state government for its inability to ensure law and order. Some of the top leaders mentioned earlier violent attacks, such as the rocket-propelled grenade attack on a government complex in Mohali in 2022, as part of a disturbing trend. They called for action and accountability from the administration at once.

The incident has again focused attention on the internal security of Punjab. Though the authorities are carrying out their investigation and following leads, political leaders and people alike are demanding quick justice and tighter preventive steps to prevent such threats in the future.

As the investigation goes on, the authorities are requesting people to remain vigilant and inform them of any suspicious activity so that community safety can be maintained.
